A few months ago, we sold our house and moved to a different neighborhood in the same city. We always hired a moving companies for our previous moves. The movers would come in with a big team and start moving and packing multiple rooms at the same time. I am a bit of a control freak and that always left me feeling completely out of balance. We usually spent a couple weeks slowly packing up the things we did not want the movers packing. The more we packed, the more unrecognizable the rooms would become and we could barely move around all the stacks of boxes. We always wished we had a garage or staging area for all the packed boxes, so we could at least still have space to live while we were packing. The pods storage concept did not even cross our minds. We only saw two ways to do this. We hire movers or we do it all ourselves.
We decided to try something new this time. We went with pods storage, after researching it a bit. We did not have to do much. After a quick scheduling call, the company brought the storage container to our driveway. The container was very secure and made of heavy steel. They come in all sizes, but we had to get a pretty big one for the contents of our house. We had the pods storage container for a little over a week. We were able to take our time packing. We would pack a couple boxes after we would get home each evening and could stack them directly in the storage unit. We took our time packing, which was a nice change from previous harried moves. The pods storage company even put us in touch with some movers to handle the heavy lifting for us. The day before the container was scheduled to be picked up, the movers moved our furniture and heavy boxes for us. The container was picked up the next day and immediately delivered to our new abode.
The day you move can try even the most patient person. But if you also have to unpack the same day you packed, it can bring you to tears. The pods storage container can sit in the new location for a few days, allowing you to slowly unpack it. Our furniture and heavy boxes were offloaded by movers (we hired the same guys we hired in the packing phase) that day. We slowly unloaded the rest at our leisure, as we got settled in that week. When we were all unpacked, the pods storage people picked the container up and we were all done. If you are not moving locally, the pods storage company also offers storage units in climate controlled warehouses until you are ready to receive your container.
It was much less stressful and more cost effective to hire pods storage. We had the storage unit for a total of three weeks and it ran us about the same amount we would have paid to lease a U haul for a weekend. Pods storage helped us be more organized, because we could take our time and situate and unpack things more efficiently.
